Earthenware Firings: Saggar
CAUTION: Check with your Fire Department about local fire regulations, and have a good water supply nearby. Do not wear fabric that melt or ignites easily. Do not used treated wood or plywood that can release toxic fumes when burned.
There two general types of saggar firing:
- protects the ware from uneven flame and / or reduction.
- contains combustible material to locally reduce the ware inside it.
- A saggar is a refractory ceramic cylindrical box with lid.
- Combustible materiasl such as seaweed, orange & banana peels, etc, are used for local reduction.
